Apparat – An Echo Skips A Name (alternate take)
Six years after his Grammy-nominated “LP5”, Berlin producer Sascha Ring returns as Apparat with “An Echo Skips A Name (alternate take)”, the first track from his sixth album “A Hum Of Maybe”, out February 20, 2026 on Mute.
The track mixes warm downtempo percussion with soft synth pads and Apparat’s distinctive vocal delivery. Lyrically, it deals with how relationships drift apart gradually—what Ring describes as a “gentle fade of recognition.” The alternate take drops today as a digital bonus track, appearing alongside the album version.
“A Hum Of Maybe” emerged from a strict creative reset after years of writer’s block. Ring forced himself into a daily routine: one musical idea per day, no editing, no perfectionism. Over the course of six months in 2025, this archive of sketches evolved into eleven core tracks. The album title refers to a state of uncertainty that still holds creative potential—”a ‘maybe’ that is not weakness, but a space where things can grow,” as Ring puts it.
Ring recorded with his usual tight circle. Philipp Johann Thimm (cello, piano, guitar) co-wrote and co-produced the record. The live band includes Christoph “Mäckie” Hamann (violin, keyboards, bass), Jörg Wähner (drums) and Christian Kohlhaas (trombone). Guests include Armenian-American vocalist KÁRYYN on “Tilth” and Berlin/Rome musician Jan-Philipp Lorenz (as Bi Disc) on “Pieces, Falling”.
The album explores love and the maintenance of close relationships with his partner and daughter amid turbulent times. Ring calls the hum “that undercurrent of potential—the in-between, where life actually happens.”
